Dr. Matthew Neighbors

Dr. Matthew Neighbors graduated from Texas A&M University’s School of Education and earned his Ed.D. from Lamar University in Educational Leadership. His experience includes 17 years as a classroom teacher, athletic coach, instructional coach, AP Reader, and campus AVID coordinator.

Dr. Neighbors joined Galveston ISD in 2004, served as principal of Austin Middle School during the pandemic, and became superintendent in 2023.  He updated the district's strategic action plan, crafted a new vision and mission, oversees five active bond construction projects, and continues to drive improvements in both operational efficiency and instruction. His wife, Allyson, works as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) for UTMB in orthopedics. They have two adult daughters.
